Hey Holman Crew,
Its been another week....and probably one of the most crazy weeks of my mission...
First off, congratulate The Holls-ter on getting engaged, that’s pretty exciting news! And all the other people that are off getting hitched in Utah! haha, thanks for the email mom and dad, I’m glad to hear all that’s going on in your lives and all that’s going down with the family...sounds like it was a harsh week with sky not making try outs...brock not making prez...coleson losing his game....and william getting sick! Sometimes we have hard times in life...but we need to always remember that everything happens for a reason...and that god knows what’s best for us....if we trust in him he will help us with are trials in life....
As for me...i kinda had my trials this week...everything was going super well in my area in Guttierez with my comp elder Dos Santos...we were working it so super hard, running from lesson to lesson...teaching and changing lives...and then it all changed...
This last Thursday in the morning, it was pouring rain....like crazy...we left the pench and with in seconds i was completely drenched...me and my comp were running toward the bus station when we got the call...it was president...
I picked up the phone and in the pouring rain and lighting he said to me...Elder Holman, I have a new assignment for you, your to pack all your possessions and need to go to the mission offices by tonight....i’m assigning you to work in chascomoos (spelling) your new comp will be elder Luna (elder moon)... I could barely hear what was going on in all the rain thunder and lighting...when i asked him what was going on all he told me is that it was emergency transfer, that Elder Luna is new in the mission, and that he had to pull his comp out of the area....he told me i needed to be in Adrogue at 4:00 and that was it...
I was kinda in shock on the phone. I told my comp, and he looked pail white, he was super sad...as was I...we continued onward to the meeting that the zone leaders had planned...as i had entered president had just gotten off the phone with them and told them the news...i was sad, and really really didn’t want to go... i was having so much success in my area and loved my comp, ward and all my investigators. As the meeting started we sang a him in Spanish that says... ill go where you want me to go, dear lord…over mountain or plain or sea...in as we were singing this hymn the sprit hit me...i knew that i needed to trust in the lord...that he knows exactly what he is doing...
I put my things together hopped on a train for Adrogue...me and my comp even cried a little on the train...i had no idea how difficult it was gonna be...when we got to Adrogue i met my comp, and the assistants and president were trying to figure out if they should send us to chascomoos or not that moment because it is super far away...about 4 hours by train and bus...one of the assistance said if we leave now there’s a chance we can make it.... president sent us off, and wished us luck...i had now idea where i was going, and my comp didn’t really know either...cuz well he’s new in the mission...one of the assistants kinda gave me directions...but i honestly had no idea what he was talking about...but i knew God would help us. So we after asking lots of question in the train station we found our way to the Plata...i don’t know if its been on the news or not, but they got hit bad by a storm...cars were swallowed up, houses were taken away in all the water...its a complete disaster there, and that’s where we were heading...about two hours in train, i saw that god was truly protecting us.... somebody had thrown a rock the size of my fist into the train just as a joke or something and it flew right past my face the face of my comp, and shattered the window behind us...i knew that God was with us...and that he was protecting us. When we got to la plata it was about 8:00. We took a taxi to what i like to call a bus airport....haha when i entered in i felt like i was in a airport but it was for buses going to different parts of Argentina. We went in and tried to buy or tickets but the last bus had left for the night...we were stuck...with no options... after waiting and a lot of praying on my part we luckily found a taxi, and found our way to the pech of the zone leaders to at least have somewhere to sleep. I was super happy to see a familiar face when i entered the pench...my old district leader was there...who is now a zone leader...he’s a super great kid, and is gonna finish his mission in a week...but he made me and my comp some pancakes...i was super happy cuz that was the first time i had eaten all day...i laid out my sleeping bag, and went to sleep on the floor...but really i didn’t sleep cuz the floor was so hard...5:00 came early that morning...and me and my comp took off for the bus airport, it was super sick cuz it was the bus with the two floors!! i was so tired from carrying all of my suitcases and package all over this country, and from not sleeping....when i got to chasco moos i felt like i was in the Manti of Argentina...its super far from civilization... haha and there’s lots of old people here!
I unpacked my things and my comp had told me a little bit about why it was an emergency transfer but basically his comp had gone crazy for like weeks and he finally called president after weeks of a craziness... haha i couldn’t help but think about how it was just like sky in the beginning of his mission. My comp was like sky and i hope that i can be his elder Poulson ;)
President told me that he was sending me to a hard area...the ward wasn’t a ward it was a branch...There was a president of the branch, but they depend directly on the mission for help. He told me that the ward would depend on me. As i went to church yesterday..i sat on the stand with president (of the branch) and i felt the mantel of my calling. I blessed the sacrament, passed it to the only deacon in the branch, sat down to say a prayer and within half a minute he had already come back...he had given the sacrament to everyone. There were about 20 people attending church. Before the testimony meeting we sang the hymn, i believe in christ...without a piano... I want all my brothers to know how to play the piano when they go on a mission...because one day they´ll be in a branch where they are the only ones that can bring the spirit of music to the members through there talent...it was the first time in my life that i wished more then anything that i could play the piano, and i couldn’t...so keep with it Brock, Coleson and William, you bless many by your talent.... As we sang there was such a strong spirit in that small little branch. To see each little widow, and old brother sing i believe in christ in this little room, it brought tears to my eyes and hit me right in the heart. I shared my testimony and told them how strongly i could feel the spirit in this small meeting, i told them that they might not be great in numbers, but in spirit they were giants. After the meeting i helped president with the tithing slips, we counted the money together and put it in the system. Haha I’m pretty much the secretary of the branch right now...After church president invited me to his house for lunch. He cooked us up some noodles, and told me that he was a single father of two sons, that his wife had left him years ago, and that he was only a convert of 4 years. I couldn’t help but think how big of an inspiration he was. After only four years of being a member he is leading a branch and doing all in his power to help them...it was an emotional day for me, cuz i missed my old ward and families there, but i was also so happy to be here and helping to build the work here... so far i love this area, i love the president, my comp, and I’m gonna give every last breath i have, every last thought i have to strengthening the branch here in chasco moos. There is a reason why god put me here, and I’m going to keep trusting in him to deliver me from my trials, and helping the work progress!
Hahah well sorry for the long letter, for you is also gonna be my journal entry for the week, cuz i haven’t had time to write in it!! haha i love you all and you are all in my prayers. Please keep me and the branch of chasco moos in your prayers!
In other news...i got my package...but some other Argentines had already gotten to it...haha they opened it up and took some of the candy and whatever was in the tj max bag...hope it wasn´t anything good in there ;) :( ...haha but me and my comp are loving the candy, and i haven’t had time to read the cards yet, but I’m gonna read them today for p-day!
I love you all and i miss you like crazy, sorry if this letter doesn’t make sense, i wrote it super fast!!! If you guys are online feel free to email me, cuz i still need to write my president, so i should be on for a little bit longer! as always your in my prayers and i love you all,
Love,
Elder Holman!!
