Hey happy Holman’s!
How’s life going? i hope good? I’m glad to hear that you made it back home mom and dad...must of been the highlight of the week cuz that’s all i heard about! hahah hope your all doing well!?
This week was a good one for me, it went by super fast, today me and my comp had to get up early at 5:30 and make a good old trip to the city of La plata! During the week i was flossing and as i was flossing a piece of my tooth went flying out in the sink! haha it was the filling that that dentist that looks like uncle eddy put in my tooth...he must of been talking so much to me about how I’m gonna love Argentina, that he forgot to do a good job on my tooth! But its all good, i now have experienced a ghetto argentine dentist...it wasn’t as bad as i thought it would be! And after that we met up with elder Gronotos, my good buddy from Mexico and ate at an awesome restaurant! Its been raining all day here...well actually all week! It started raining and has just been non-Stop!!! It makes doing missionary work really hard because... well if your wet and want to enter a home that has a dirt floor...you turn there dirt floor into a mud floor...and so nobody wants you to come in...it’s kinda rough, but regardless we worked it hard, and taught and invited people to be baptized, and invited all to come unto Christ!
This past week was a good one, especially because of two super great investigators that we have, there names are Raquel and Sofia. Raquel was a reference from an hermana that works for the government. Raquel always attended a evangelist church, but recently began to have some doubts about some of her beliefs, and practices. She began talking to hermana veronica about these doubts...and hermana Veronica just so happens to be a member of the church :) So like a good member, she shared a little bit about our beliefs, and invited her to meet with the missionaries. She has been an absolute delight to teach, she has such a strong testimony of the bible, and has begun to receive a testimony of the book of Mormon! We have shared and felt many spiritual and wonderful moments as we taught Raquel and her daughter...but an experience that they had hit me hard with the spirit...
Just this last Saturday in the mourning we taught both Raquel and her daughter the word of wisdom, they both had lots of questions about why they couldn´t drink tea (normally everyone does) but after testimony was shared and the spirit confirmed to them that it was something they needed to do, they both agreed to keep this commandment.... haha Raquel was a little bit mad at us, because she had just that morning bought her weekly supply of tea and coffee...and she assured us that it would be out of the house the second we left....Well later that night, Raquel and Sofia went to the house of other family members, and Sofia’s aunt (Raquel’s sister) offered to make Sofia a coffee with milk, and she said that she wouldn´t drink it. Then her aunt said...well...i’ll make you a tea then...and she also declined it, she began to pressure here into drinking it, asking her why she wouldn’t accept it, and when she explained that two Mormon missionaries taught her that it was against the commandments, and to Sofia’s surprise, her aunt got super mad at her, and explained to her to not listen to us, and that it was all of the devil, and to drink her coffee. Sofia once again declined her coffee, and expressed that she would not drink it...
Well you may think that this is not that big of a deal, but Sofia is only is ten years old, as her mother explained to me this story, and how determined she was to keep the word of wisdom, I listened in absolute shock, and as she finished sharing the story, the spirit once again, testified to each one of us in that room the importance of that commandment, and confirmed that it was a commandment given from god. I was so proud of her in that moment. As missionaries we invite others to come unto Christ, and to show Christ that we truly love him, we keep his commandments, even when we don’t completely understand them.
Its moments like that where i feel so happy to be a missionary. Moments that investigators truly live the commandments and learn for themselves the importance of them. It leaves me with such a good and happy feeling inside. To know that they are following Christ through the commandments we taught them. It brings me more joy then i can express.
Both Raquel and Sofia have the goal to be baptized the end of this week. There is no better feeling in the world then to watch investigators make changes in there lives so that they can enter the waters of baptism. The spirit always confirms to me in those moments the importance of this work...its not important if i had to walk and bike in the rain all week...its not important if i had to have rejection after rejection, its not important that I’m tired and as cold as a dog from working all day long...none of that is important in that moment that they make that sacred covenant of baptism and take upon them the name of Christ. Those are the moments that its all worth it! If everything goes smoothly this week i should be experiencing all of that joy once again this week!
Well in other news we had an awesome first zone conference with our new President of the mission. I like him a lot, there’s lots of differences between him and my old mission president, my other mission president was super business related...probably cuz he was a CEO of a bank...and this president is so calm and almost quiet, but powerful, because he talks with the spirit. He was a seminary teacher at BYU Idaho for a long time, and has the scriptures completely memorized. It was fun this week to do personal one on one practices with the mission president, and to have him teach us, and help us feel the spirit so strongly. He can read passages of scriptures to us that i have read a hundred times, and shed new light and understanding on them. For example he taught us about when Christ came to the Americas and that when he appeared to the people there he let each one touch the marks in his hand and in his feet. He explained to us that there were 2,500 people in that crowd, and if he gave roughly each person ten seconds to feel his marks in his hands and feet, that the savior spent over 7 hours, just letting the people come unto him. He testified to us that we should care this much about our investigators. We shouldn’t spend 7 hours in a house but we should give each one of our investigators the chance to "feel Christ’s marks." It truly was a wonderful day for me, I learned so much of what i need to do to be more like the perfect missionary, or more like Christ. I have a long ways to go, and i don’t think ill even get remotely close to being the missionary that Christ was, but i promised myself that i wont quit trying to be like the missionary he was until the day that i die.
It was a good week, and I’m excited for this one, to get back to chascomus and keep on working until i don’t have an ounce of energy left. I love you all, and I’m so grateful for your prayers you send my way, just now that each prayer you send my way is matched, I’m sending lots your guy´s way! Remember this week, to always walk in the light of Cristo, to always be, an example to the world, and to always be a missionary. i love you all and miss ya much!!
